"I chose to get involved"

"I chose to get involved"

Almost two-and-a-half years ago, I received an email from HDI wondering if I would be interested in helping plan some virtual HDI meetings. indicated my interest, and then was sent more info with instructions to apply to be an officer. I wasn't sure I was ready to be that involved, but I sent in the info anyway. I still don’t know who voted or why they voted for me, but somehow I was elected VP of Communications for the newly created vChapter.

I had attended local chapter meetings sporadically for years and getting this behind-the-scenes look at what goes into putting a meeting together (even a virtual one) was very eye-opening and a very good learning experience. It also allowed me to work with an outstanding team of fellow vChapter officers and HDI employees.

I then attended the HDI Conference & Expo and Local Chapter Officer Summit gatherings. I can honestly say I have never met a more positive, fun group of people willing to share knowledge and experiences both formally and informally. Being closely involved also makes it easier to know of the many benefits HDI offers to members - like networking opportunities, blogs, forums and research papers. I am very thankful that I chose to get involved and would recommend it to anyone. Get involved – just do it!
